Job Summary
The Scrum Master is a member of an Agile development team who functions as a servant leader that helps the team self-organize, self-manage, and achieve its goals via effective Agile, Lean, and Scrum practices. This position will coordinate dependencies with other teams and help to resolve roadblocks for their teams. For this position, it is essential to drive collaboration with other Agile teams and stakeholders to identify, promote, and adopt best practices and lessons learned to optimize team and program performance in a fully transparent manner.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Facilitates Scrum, XP, Agile and SAFe rituals including PI Planning, Daily Stand Up, Sprint Planning, mid-Sprint review, Demo, Retrospective, and Inspect and Adapt workshops
- Guides rather than drives teams toward objectives, goals, and continuous improvement
- Works inside and outside of the team to identify and remove impediments in the organization so that the team can remain focused on achieving its goals
- Effective and timely communication to all levels of the organization, including progress tracking and reporting
- Promotes relentless improvement within team practices
- Balances changes in direction or requirements while protecting the team so the team can achieve committed objectives
- Helps Product Owner maximize value by ensuring that Product backlog is prioritized and clear for all
- Maintains relevant metrics that help the team and program can track progress and performance
- Coordinates with other Scrum Masters and shared resources in planning meetings
- Collaborates with Product Owners to ensure team execution and performance are aligned with business objectives – near and long-term
Required Skills/Abilities
- Strong understanding of Agile principles, values, techniques and theory. In-depth knowledge of Agile methodologies and techniques
- Demonstrated ability to coach/mentor team members in Agile Methodologies
- Ability to work independently and pro-actively under minimal supervision
- Demonstrated high level of analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong negotiation skills
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field
- 5 years of experience in an Agile development environment
- Scrum Master certification required
- Previous experience in a leadership & people management role
- Experience with using requirements management tools, including JIRA or Azure DevOps (TFS) preferred
- SAFe certification preferred
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
